OUR FAMILY RULES

1. We respect ourselves.
2. We respect our parents and others.
3. We respect property.
4. We do not manipulate.
5. We supervise ourselves and clean up our own messes.
6. We follow directions.
7. We are always honest.
8. We ask permission before doing things.
9. We do our jobs.
10. We have good dress and grooming habits.
11. We have a good attitude.
12. We go to bed happily and on time

Instructions: If a child breaks a rule, they go to time out for 1 minute for every year they are old. 3 years = 3 minutes in time out. Sadly, most children will break several rules, so add it up, but make sure you're calm. The area of time out needs to have the rules posted in front of them, even if they can't read. Once they serve their time out, the following Parent Script should be followed for optimal results.

Parent: "What rule did you break?" Child Answers (example) "We respect property"
Parent: "How did you break it?" Child Answers (exmaple) "I broke Spencer's toy firetruck"
Parent: "How will you not break this rule next time?" Child Answers (example) "I will walk away when I'm mad"
Parent: " That is good!"
Parent: "Do you know why we have these Family Rules?" Child Answers (example) "I don't know" (or have them repeat after you.. the following statement)
Parent: "...because we love you and want you to be happy" Child Answers (example) "Because you love me and want me to be happy.."
Parent: "That's right" (then you MUST hug that child).

Parent: (if Christian/LDS) "Heavenly Father also has rules because he loves us and wants us to be happy, that's why we have rules too." :) extra hug.

NOTE: Breaking rule #7 is always a DOUBLE TIME OUT <--that is manditory.
Time outs help parents and children to calm down.

I cleared out my downstairs bathroom of anything that could harm/hurt a child. Remove all cleansers and medications, etc. Sit the child on a closed toilet seat. Post the rules so that if they are sitting on the toilet, they can see the rules clearly. Make sure you have a family meeting ahead of time to explain clearly the rules to the kids.Give them a treat if they remember each one, in the family meeting. Even if they can't read, they will be happy to learn these rules for a small treat. If they can't remember which rule they broke, remind them, then ask them to repeat it before moving on with the script. Note: Number 4 is the only one with the word "not" that appears negative. Every other rule is stated positively. #4 is important stated that way because it is the one that hurts them and others as they grow up, and it's UNACCEPTABLE.

8:00pm - Back in A-Fib, back to the Hospital

Our THIRD hospital in 2 weeks. Mark went to American Fork IHC tonight for severe chest pains and A-Fib at 8:00pm. Thank goodness for the skilled hands and priesthood blessings! It's 1:26am and we're home, finally. Thank you Dave and our Wonderful Bishop! They made a "convert" out of Mark (converted him back to sinus rythum). Sometimes, this gets downright scary. I can't even sleep. I just want to watch him breathe all night.....

What a rough month for our little family, but we're all back in business for the most part! Here's some crazy pictures to shed light on the issues. First, here's Kat in the hospital for a few days with C-diff after many trips to Doctor, Urgent Care and ER wouldn't get rid of it.
This is in the URGENT CARE, before she was diagnosed with Colostridium Dificile. C-Diff She was in so much pain and the IV wasn't working at all!!!

AFTER photo, after diagnosis and after proper medication (Flagyl) She's home now and doing a LOT better, still has some rough days though (actually rough mornings).

This is the EKG - BEFORE surgery, totally irregular all the time.

And this is just 9 hours AFTER surgery (ablation, is actually the technical word for it! He's fantastic! ALL BETTER NOW!!! WooHoo!!!

I love little Miss Pepper! Her mommy was sick today, so I helped out.

"WHAT NOT TO WEAR!" (I'm trying!)

Why did I ever think this was ok to wear? Argh! I would have been pulled over by the Fashion Police! YUCK. Yeah, don't bother commenting, I need to lose weight also, but hey, I went from an 18 to a 12, and I'm not complaining! I'm working on it!

This is an attempt to try to make things a little better and wear a better fitting pant. Thanks to "What not to wear"! Now I have to work on everything else!!! I am officially a 12 Petite, and I'm happy with the progress.

Sisters, Sisters, there were never such devoted Sisters!

Sisters are so special! Always love your sister! I love my sisters, even when we're apart. Nothing will ever change that.

"Suite Life of Mark & Linda"

I feel like I'm on the Disney show "Suite Life of Zach and Cody". My adventures have included:

1) Making a pretend cooking show by myself on a hotel floor, recipe? GUACAMOLE
2) Watching a "lady of the nite" help a Chinese man make a waffle for the first time.
3) Making friends with my Hispanic housemaid with four beautiful gold teeth.
4) Trying to figure out what is wrong with the bathroom fan.
5) Following miles of hallways toward a recreation room that didn't exist.
(I guess I got my excercise going up and down miles of hallway!)
6) Talking to my friend "Davy Baby" (seminary student) for 3 hours.
7) Another phone call, trying to "fight city hall", I'm losing that one.
8) Stalking up on Shampoo (we'll leave it at that; I'm only taking my daily share)
9) Having a lunch consisting of Roast Beef and Spinach Salad, and ate it in bed! :)
10) Counting planes as they flew overhead, and tried to guess the Airliner.
For some reason, I'm always right about Southwest. Not sure...why...

I'm enjoying the "Suite" life. But I sure miss my Young Adults...and Shelby. :)

"This is It" and that was that! Good Times!

These darling children and their Mommy brought by this poster for Sister Shattuck in England and invited me to the Michael Jackson Movie "This Is It". These darling children knew most of the words to these songs and we had a blast clapping and singing. I was "Thriller-ed" that someone else was such a big fan of his music also! These kids are a crack up singing beat it! Thanks for the invite, it was a blast and the company is so dang cute!!! I just wanted to squeeze them!

I'm "Royce" and I'm your Tour Guide! Mt. Timp Caves Extravaganza!!!

Today we had a great family experience. I carried a little picture of Lizzie so she could hike with us in proxy. I thought a lot about her, and her growth, mentally, spiritually and physically as she climbed her own "Mountain of Faith". I wasn't initially sure I could do it - Hike to the Timp Caves. I was prepared (probably over prepared) and I did it and it was so TOTALL WORTH IT! The expression alone on my kids' face and to see them proud of their parents was wonderful. I loved that Travis held my hand to help me up part of it, and that in the caves, Spencer kept me steady. I also loved our tour guide. He was totally fine with the fact that I had epilepsy (I was a little apprehensive about being in the cave, with lights flashing) and he was very calming and extremely informative. EVERYONE should have a tour with this OUTSTANDING guide. He knows it all, seen it all, and has a great story to tell and very humorous. He really made our day! I also made a few friends along the way, and one was this little caterpillar and the other was a chipmunk. Yes, I named him Alvin. I look like a wet rag doll in this picture, but we had the time of our lives!!! Thank you Spencer for the great family date idea, thanks Kat and Travis for getting the tickets and for your great encouragement. Mark, I'm as proud of you as I am of myself for making it to the top. I only had a hard time coming down off my Victory Hike, because I wanted to continue to enjoy the view!!! What a great day!
